Neurofeedback for Children
Gentle, painless brain training for kids and teens. It starts with a qEEG brain map, then short, game-like sessions where the feedback rewards steadier brainwave patterns.
Brain training, built around your child’s brain map.
Neurofeedback is gentle, drug-free brain training for kids and teens in Clarksville, TN. It starts with a painless qEEG brain map that we walk you through in plain language. Then come short sessions where your child relaxes and watches or listens to something on a screen that responds to their brainwaves, and the feedback rewards steadier patterns. Nothing is sent into the body, there are no needles, and you can stay nearby the whole time. You do not need a referral or a diagnosis to book.

You know your child better than anyone, and you can usually tell when something is not clicking. The homework that turns into a nightly standoff. The meltdown that arrives out of nowhere and lasts too long. The bedtime that stretches past ten because a busy little mind will not power down. The teacher notes that keep circling the same word: focus.
None of that means your child is broken, and none of it means you are failing them. A good first step is simply to look, and that is what a brain map is for.
What a child’s brain map and sessions are like.
Everything starts with a qEEG brain map, the same painless recording we do for adults, just paced to keep a child comfortable. Your child wears a soft cap of sensors for a few minutes while we record, and the whole appointment takes about an hour, including setup. We turn the recording into a color-coded picture, and at a separate visit Dr. Cindy Morrey sits down with you to explain what it shows in plain language and build a training plan around what we find.
The training itself looks like a game: your child watches or listens to something on a screen that responds to their brainwaves, and their brain is quietly rewarded for steadier patterns as they go. Sessions are short, and parents are welcome to stay involved. We explain what we are working on and why. When you are ready, you can start with a brain map.
Start with a brain mapIs neurofeedback safe for kids?
Safety is almost always a parent’s first question, and it is the right one to ask. Neurofeedback is non-invasive: we record your child’s brain activity through sensors placed on the scalp, and nothing is sent into the brain. There are no needles. It is generally well tolerated. Some people notice temporary tiredness, mild headache, or restlessness after a session, usually early in training. Tell us about anything you notice and we will adjust your child’s protocol.
The process is manageable for many children, including kids who get anxious about anything that looks medical, and a session feels closer to a focused video game than to a treatment.
What parents most often bring their kids in for.
Parents most often come to us around focus and attention, emotional regulation, and sleep. For emotional regulation and sleep, training aims to help a child’s brain steady its own rhythms, and how much it helps differs from one child to the next.
If attention is the main worry, a qEEG brain map shows how your child’s attention networks are actually working. We review those patterns with you in plain language and build a training plan around what we find. Neurofeedback is not a treatment for ADHD and is not a substitute for care from your child’s prescriber. The American Academy of Pediatrics’ 2019 ADHD guideline lists EEG biofeedback among non-medication treatments with either too little evidence to recommend them or little or no benefit.
For questions specifically about ADHD and attention, our page on ADHD & attention goes deeper into how training fits alongside other support. For children on the autism spectrum, our autism & regulation page covers our approach.
Close to home, on a full family schedule.
We see a lot of Clarksville and Fort Campbell families, and military life adds its own weight for children: a parent away on deployment, another new school after another move, a household routine that keeps getting reshuffled. Kids feel all of that, and it often surfaces as trouble focusing or settling down. Having neurofeedback close to home, at our clinic on Memorial Drive, means one less long drive on a family schedule that is already full. Whatever brought you here, your child is welcome. Parent questions
At what age can a child start?
There is no strict cutoff. What matters is whether a child can sit reasonably still for a short session, and we adapt our approach for younger kids.
Does the brain map or the training hurt?
No. The sensors only read activity, so there are no needles and nothing is sent in, and most kids find it easy.
Can a brain map diagnose my child’s ADHD?
No. A qEEG brain map shows patterns in brainwave activity. It cannot diagnose ADHD or any condition.
Will neurofeedback replace my child’s doctor, therapist, or school support?
It works alongside them. We coordinate with your pediatrician, therapist, and school, because a child does best when everyone is working together, and we will never tell you to stop a medication your child has been prescribed.
How many sessions will my child need?
It varies. After the brain map and results review we will give you a realistic sense of what a course looks like for your child.
